Homemade pesto is so easy to make and versatile. Serve it on your favourite pasta, pizza, or sandwiches. I prefer to use walnuts instead of the traditional pine nuts since I always have walnuts on hand, and they’re much less expensive than pine nuts. For an added flavour boost, toast the walnuts and garlic in a pan before tossing in the food processor.

Basil Pesto with Walnuts

- Food processor
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup walnuts
- 3 garlic cloves
- 2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
- ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp freshly ground pepper
- ⅓ cup olive oil
Instructions
- In a food processor, pulse walnuts and garlic.
- Add basil, cheese, salt and pepper. Pulse several times until smooth, scraping the sides with a rubber spatula as needed.
- Slowly pour in olive oil using the feed tube.
