A very straightforward recipe from my friend Moni, this torte is visually stunning and guaranteed to impress your guests! It has a pie-like crust at the bottom, with a cream cheese and jam filling, topped with apples, cinnamon and almonds.
Bavarian Apple Torte
Equipment
- 9" springform pan
Ingredients
Crust
- ½ cup butter
- ⅓ cup sugar
- ¼ tsp vanilla
- 1 cup flour
- ¼ cup raspberry or strawberry jam
Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese (at room temperature)
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp vanilla
Topping
- ⅓ cup sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 4 cups apples (peeled, cored and sliced)
- ½ cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450℉.
Crust
- In a medium bowl, mix butter, sugar and vanilla. Blend in flour.
- Press batter on the bottom and sides of a non-stick 9" springform pan.
- Spread with a thin layer of jam.
Filling
- In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Mix well. Pour over jam.
Topping
- Toss apples with the sugar and cinnamon.
- Spoon over cream cheese mixture.
Bake
- Bake at 450℉ for 10 minutes, then sprinkle almonds on top.
- Bake at 400℉ for another 25 minutes.
- Cool, place on your serving dish or platter, and carefully remove the sides of the pan before slicing.
Notes
If your springform pan isn’t non-stick, spray the sides and bottom of the pan with non-stick cooking spray before starting.
