Bavarian Apple Torte

A very straightforward recipe from my friend Moni, this torte is visually stunning and guaranteed to impress your guests! It has a pie-like crust at the bottom, with a cream cheese and jam filling, topped with apples, cinnamon and almonds.

Equipment

  • 9" springform pan

Ingredients

Crust

  • ½ cup butter
  • cup sugar
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ cup raspberry or strawberry jam

Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp vanilla

Topping

  • cup sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 4 cups apples (peeled, cored and sliced)
  • ½ cup sliced almonds

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450℉.

Crust

  • In a medium bowl, mix butter, sugar and vanilla. Blend in flour.
  • Press batter on the bottom and sides of a non-stick 9" springform pan.
  • Spread with a thin layer of jam.

Filling

  • In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Mix well. Pour over jam.

Topping

  • Toss apples with the sugar and cinnamon.
  • Spoon over cream cheese mixture.

Bake

  • Bake at 450℉ for 10 minutes, then sprinkle almonds on top.
  • Bake at 400℉ for another 25 minutes.
  • Cool, place on your serving dish or platter, and carefully remove the sides of the pan before slicing.

Notes

If your springform pan isn’t non-stick, spray the sides and bottom of the pan with non-stick cooking spray before starting.
